Whiplash

We often think of whiplash in relation to car accidents, however this is not always the case, some trips or falls will result in whiplash too as the neck is forced into sudden and unexpected movement (when the head is thrown forward and backwards). Muscles of the neck can be overstretched or strained, causing reduced mobility, irritation and pain. Discs and nerves are frequently involved too in more moderate to severe cases.

Symptoms:

The symptoms of a Whiplash injury may take some time to develop after an accident or fall. It is common for people to suffer up to 6 months or longer after their initial injury.

Whiplash injuries tend to develop over stages, frequently starting with neck pain and stiffness accompanied by the reduced mobility of your neck, these can progress to or can be alongside pins and needles and or shooting pains down the arms.

Solutions:

Specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of Whiplash injuries our thorough examination will determine your level of trauma, identifying specific joints or damaged areas and whether you require further imaging (MRI or X-Ray).*
Depending on your injuries, treatment is personalised to your needs and might include adjustments to your spine to restore mobility and muscle release techniques to relieve pain.

Your treatment might also include Dry Needling or Medical Acupuncture to relax any muscle spasm as well as rehabilitation exercises to develop your strength and reduce the likelihood of further problems for you.
* Your chiropractors here at Advanced Chiropractic are qualified to refer for any further imaging (MRI, X-Rays, Ultrasounds that they may deem necessary).
